4 charged with DUI

On Jan.1, Pennsylvania State Police observed a 2011 Lincoln MKS fail to use a turn signal while turning on and off of William Street in the city.

The driver, Josiah Baity, of 11 Ridge Street, was stopped by police, who observed that Baity had glassy, bloodshot eyes. The officer also detected the odor of alcohol and marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to court documents.

During a field sobriety test, Baity showed signs of impairment and smelled of marijuana and alcohol, and a breathalyzer showed signs of alcohol. Baity admitted to having smoked marijuana and consuming a few drinks that night, police allege.

A toxicology report indicated Baily to be under the influence of a number of controlled substances.

Baity was charged with DUI, and a summary offense, waived his preliminary hearing, and was released on $5,000 bail.

In another case, at 10 p.m. on Aug. 12, 2022, Pennsylvania State Police operating in the city, observed a broken center brake light on a 2007 Volkswagen Beetle traveling in front of them on Washington Blvd.

Upon stopping the vehicle, police observed that the driver, Karen Morton, of 179 Old Cement Road Lot B, Montoursville, was fidgeting, making fast, deliberate movements, and was very talkative, according to an affidavit. Morton also displayed glassy eyes with dilated pupils.

Morton told officers that she was currently taking prednisone, and was on her way to Wegman’s to pick up milk of magnesia, though officers noted that Wegman’s was already closed, court documents state.

Morton failed a field sobriety test, and toxicology tests revealed the presence of benzoylecgonine and cocaine.

Morton was charged with DUI, a summary offense, waived a preliminary hearing, and released on $5,000 bail.

In another case, at 1:45 a.m. on May 28, Pennsylvania State Police observed a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta with an inoperable tail light in the area of Muncy Creek Blvd. In Muncy, and initiated a traffic stop.

As the officer approached the vehicle, he spotted an open can of Bud Light behind the driver’s seat, and detected an odor of alcohol coming from the driver, Tyler Shoemaker, of 49 Laidecker Road, Muncy, according to court documents.

Shoemaker attempted to provide his credit card, told police he was coming from McDonald’s, which had been closed since 11 p.m., and initially told police he had “3 beers” at Hull’s Landing, but later said he had been at the bar for 45 minutes, and only had “two Bud Lights,”police allege.

Shoemaker failed a field sobriety test, and had a BAC of 0.16.

Shoemaker was charged with DUI, 2 summary offenses, waived a preliminary hearing, and was released on $2,500 bail.

In another case, at 2 a.m. on Jan. 7, Pennsylvania State Police noted a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta with an inoperable tail light traveling on Washington Blvd in the city.

After initiating a traffic stop, police detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The driver, Lyric Browning, of 662 Krouse Avenue, also had glassy, bloodshot eyes, according to police. Browning stated to police that she had consumed one shot and a drink, and that she was currently taking Abilify and Zoloft.

Browning failed a field sobriety test and toxicology reports were positive for the presence of THC, court documents show.

Browning was charged with DUI, a summary offense, waived a preliminary hearing, and was released on $5,000 bail.
